1. Say please and thank you to your kids. They won't have manners if you don't. It amazes me how many parents demand things from their kids, but expect them to be polite. My mom always asked me to do the laundry and the dishes. Of course, we all knew she was "telling" me to do it, but it's always nice to have someone do it politely.
2. Don't let your kids' bad behavior make people dread to see you coming. All kids misbehave a little, but they shouldn't be terrible in public. My mom always said she never wanted to see people dread to have her come over because her kids were bad, and I feel the same way now. (I think I've succeed here!)
3. Find your dream job. That is easier said than done, but I will find mine!
4. Be a care giver, but with a little less nagging ;-)
5. Read often and visit bookstores. She was one of the only people who understood and felt the same way about bookstores that I do. We both loved walking around bookstores, and browsing the shelves.
6. Don't smoke, it has taken too many people we love. She would come back and kick my butt (or my kids') if I ever even thought about smoking.
7. Family first, period.
8. Try new things. I miss having someone to do this with, like seeing a foreign film with subtitles ("Coco before Chanel"), or going to the Nelson-Atkins Museum. We always had a good time. I look forward to doing things like this with my girls.
